Hollow polymer capsules of controlled sizes for controlled delivery of organic molecules consist essentially of homopolymers. The capsules may be prepared by a facile, single-step self-assembly of an amphiphilic polyacid and a dispersing homopolymer. Assembled structures may be prepared to be reversibly dissolved via pH variations, or may be stabilized by crosslinking to produce pH-responsive reversibly swellable containers. The capsules are useful for encapsulation and controlled release of hydrophobic and hydrophilic small organic molecules.
